Goal Shooter (GS)

The Goal Shooter (GS) plays within the attacking goal third, which includes the shooting circle. This position is often, but not always, defended by the opposing Goal Keeper. The player's main role is to shoot goals, by working closely with Goal Attack to achieve positions in the shooting circle where they can receive passes from the feeding midcourt players.


Goal Attack (GA) 

The Goal Attack (GA) plays within the centre and attacking goal thirds, including the shooting circle. This position is often defended by the opposing Goal Defence. As well as sharing the Goal Shooter's role to shoot goals, the Goal Attack is responsible for helping to set up offensive plays.


Wing Attack (WA)

The Wing Attack (WA) plays within the centre and attacking goal thirds, excluding the shooting circle. This position is often defended by the opposing Wing Defence. The player's main role is to move the ball from centre court to an attacking position. Accurate passing using a variety of styles including bounce passing, drop passing and faking passing is important in this position.


Centre (C) 

The Centre (C) player plays in all parts of the court except for the shooting circles. The Centre is involved in defensive and offensive plays, and players in this position require a high level of fitness. The Centre is also responsible for restarting play after a goal is scored.


Wing Defence (WD) 

The Wing Defence (WD) plays within the centre and defensive goal thirds, excluding the shooting circle. This player usually defends against the Wing Attack. They are often involved in blocking offensive plays from the opposing team. They may also be called upon to guard against the Goal Attack or Goal Shooter by preventing them from entering the goal circle.


Goal Defence (GD)

The Goal Defence (GD) plays within the centre and defensive goal thirds, including the shooting circle. This player usually defends against the Goal Attack. Their main role is to defend the goal against the opposing shooters, in combination with the Goal Keeper.


Goal Keeper (GK)

The Goal Keeper (GK) is a specialised defensive position. The player in this position is often the last person who can keep the opposing shooters from scoring. They play within the defensive goal third, including the shooting circle. The Goal Keeper is also responsible for taking throw-ins in the defensive third of the court. Accuracy in passing and predicting where the ball will go are keys to playing this position well.
